IAN Evatt expressed his disappointment as a resolute defensive display by Solihull Moors saw the West Midlanders earn a smash and grab 2-1 victory and end Barrow’s unbeaten home record at Holker Street in the Vanarama National League.

As with the 3-1 defeat at Salford City on Bank Holiday Monday, the one area of focus for Bluebirds boss Evatt was the defensive display of his own side.

This was because both of Solihull’s goals came inside the final five minutes when it seemed as if the least Barrow would get out of the match would be a draw.

“Again, we dominated the game,” said Evatt. “It’s frustrating because that’s probably the best we’ve played in terms of our patience and possession.

“We had a couple of chances to take the lead and need to be more clinical at both ends of the pitch. The worst-case scenario is that we’ve conceded two sloppy goals – they didn’t do enough to beat us.”

Evatt further expressed his disappointment at the fact AFC gifted the away side a two-goal advantage, as he felt the game was still there to be won.

“The game was always going to be one where they were going to sit in and try to nick the game, and they did it. I felt that if we had kept the score line at 0-0 then we would’ve gone on to score a late winner.”

Solihull Moors manager Tim Flowers conceded the hosts deserved something from the match.

“It’s a very good result against a team that were undefeated at home, you’ve got to be honest in football, I thought that Barrow were the better side today,” he said.

“I thought that they certainly deserved something out of the game, they’ve changed styles from last season and have some really good technical players.”
