BARROW AFC fans were encouraged by the performance of their team away to Salford City on Bank Holiday Monday, despite them suffering a 3-1 defeat.

The Bluebirds took 512 fans to the Peninsula Stadium to watch them compete with a Salford side which has been tipped by many pundits to perform well in the Vanarama National League this season following promotion.

That strong travelling contingent gave the game a cup-tie feel and several took to Facebook after the game to express their views.

“Good to hear the Zigga Zagga chant again ....first time I’ve watched Barrow in years,” wrote John Earnshaw, who added Barrow were on top for much of the first half, which they led for part of through Jason Taylor.

“I Have to say Barrow were battering them and really should have gone for the jugular when they went one up.”

There were other fans such as Mike Wilson who was impressed by the number of fans who made the trip, commenting: “512 is a superb following today.”

Fellow AFC fan Bruce Richardson also said: “Best football at Barrow for years, shame we didn’t get our rewards, keep it going Ian”

Meanwhile, long-standing fan Ray McGuire also believes that there is still plenty of potential left in Ian Evatt’s side.

“Early days, we are playing well and as IAN says we will get better. Regroup and go again on Saturday. C O Y B.”
