IAN Evatt bemoaned Barrow AFC’s lack of luck away from home as his side ended up on the receiving end of a 3-1 defeat at Salford City on Bank Holiday Monday:

The Bluebirds took the lead through Jason Taylor but were pegged back before half time by Adam Rooney, with Salford going on to take the win courtesy of Nathan Pond’s header and a debatable penalty from Danny Lloyd.

“It’s a case of deja vu,” said Barrow boss Evatt. “We need things to start going for us.

“They’ve had three shots and they’ve scored three goals. It’s our own individual errors that you can’t really account for.”

But despite that and the defeat, Evatt was still happy with the overall performance from his Barrow players.

“The lads have shown what I’ve asked them to do,” said Evatt. “I think we’re genuinely a better team than them.

“It’s a work in process; I’m pleased that we’ve dictated the game and it’s fine lines away from home. It’s the small things that have cost us.

“We’ve just got to be better and more physical, sometimes heading a ball isn’t about how big you are, you’ve got to be getting there first. We’ve just got to get better at it.

“I think it’s clear to everyone that we’re the better team, but we’ve gifted them the game and that can’t keep happening.”

Evatt would not be drawn on some controversial refereeing decisions, but thanked the 512 Barrow fans who made the trip and is looking forward to Saturday’s game at home to Solihull Moors.

“We’ve got to go and win a game on Saturday and put the game behind us and be better,” said Evatt, adding: “The travelling fans were outstanding and they really helped our players.”
