BARROW AFC have filled the hole in the centre of their defence by landing a rising star from West Bromwich Albion.

Teenager Kyle Jameson has joined the Bluebirds on a half-season loan from the Championship club.

His arrival comes days after Brian Wilson and Matt Elsdon were hurt in the 2-0 defeat at FC Halifax Town. He is available to face Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road on Saturday afternoon.

“I've been tracking him for the last month or so,” Evatt said of the Urmston-born defender, who was on the books at Chelsea before joining the Baggies.

“He was someone I wanted to sign, but he had League options, which didn't quite work out. Fortunately for us, once the injuries happened on Tuesday, I was able to get him in.

“He's 6ft 4in, left-footed, very athletic, quick, pacey, so he'll be good for us.

“He's got very good attributes, but this is his first loan in men's football. He's got great pedigree, he's come from Chelsea to West Brom; he's been captain of their under-23s; so he has that pedigree, and now he just needs to go earn his stripes in men's football.”

Evatt hopes that Jameson takes his chance with the Bluebirds and shows what he is capable of, saying: “Everything happens for a reason, and now he has got to go out and prove to everyone why he is so highly thought-of at West Brom and why he has such a big future in the game. He's got to go and prove it in men's football now.”
