CHESTERFIELD have made an immediate National League impact under new manager Martin Allen – but the Spireites boss as warned his side will only keep getting better.

The Derbyshire outfit head to Holker Street tonight – for the 53rd meeting between the clubs in South Cumbria, but the first since March 1967, when they were in Division Four of the Football League – with a 100 per cent record from their opening three fixtures.

Not only that, but Chesterfield have yet to concede a goal, having disposed of Ebbsfleet United, Aldershot Town and Braintree Town without a blemish on their defensive record.

They are sure to provide a stiff test for the Bluebirds this evening (7.45pm kick-off), and Allen – appointed in the summer in a bid for an immediate return for the club to the Football League – wants them to keep getting better.

“We’ve got to improve; we’ve always got to improve,” Allen told the Chesterfield club website.

“We’ve got to get better and we will get better. This has only just started, this place has only just started to rock and roll.”

Among the threats Barrow will have to deal with tonight is former Celtic and WBA forward Marc-Antoine Fortuné, who joined from Southend United a day before the start of the season, and who found the net against Aldershot last week.

Ex-West Ham United and Burnley winger Zavon Hines and goalkeeper Shwan Jalal – who won the National League title with Macclesfield Town last season – are also involved.

There will be no involvement for Bradley Nicholson at Holker Street tonight, after he left the Spireites by mutual consent yesterday morning.

Teenager Nicholson became involved with the Chesterfield set-up under Barrow AFC boss Ian Evatt in the second half of last season, and was given a six-month professional contract.

However, the left-back has not featured under Allen and is heading out of Proact Stadium.
