Amateurs ready to face Barrow AFC

THE Furness Select football squad are determined to give Barrow AFC a decent workout.

Have your say

Barry,
you having a laugh? Haymen and smith arnt what they were a couple of years ago, Adam Bell could be worth a shout though and although knocking on a bit stuey nipps should never be overlooked.

Just maybe not all the best players in the area play for these 3 "Giant" clubs but enjoy their football in the doldrums of the west lancs divisions 1 and 2 and god forbid the furness prem. Just maybe they have a little bit too much self-respect than to join the big-time charlies up at Holker.

It was the same 50 years ago when the used to select the Barrow Boys Teams. If joe Humphrys knew you or your father you were selected, same old thing not what you know but who you know.

I thought young lads like Kie Haymen and Zak Smith might have got a game, they are 2 big names for the future.
No kev crisp either now that is a shock.

Stephen, do you know the meaning of the word 'veteran' At least 7 of the above named players are under 25!! Glad I don't live in your world, old age would probably commence at 30!!!

Lee/Stephen, at best your comments are ignorant, and at worst insulting. The majority of the players are under 25 and with the exception of young Gardner the side is made up of players from the top three sides in the area. If any "young" player thought he was good enough to play at a higher level then he would have progressed to one of these teams. Do not let the fact that players say they play "West Lancs" fool you. Unfortunately too many young local players seem content to play in lower West Lancs Leagues purely for the label of being a "west lancs player" when in all honesty West Lancs Division 2 (which the majority of our teams play in, and are invariably mid table in) is a similar level to the Furness Premier league. Let's not kid ourselves by thinking this is some kind of trial. It is a pre season friendly and should be treated as such. The local lads will put in a good effort but Barrow will win comfortably and the local lads will go back to their respective clubs better for the experience.

Disgraceful comment stephen. The team is littered with legends of the local game. As for never amounting to anything most lads have passed there driving tests and hold down full time jobs

'pritty' boys?? And veterans?? Why cant these lads just be given a chance. They have been picked, end of, its the local community officer picking the team remember, would u rather the lads said no?

Same old team, what a fix. I hope Barrow put 10 past them pritty boys.

Looks more like a Furness Veteran side to me, i'm surprised Dave Round hasn't been included to add a sprinkle of youth. Surely there must be more youthful, promising local players playing west lancs football that deserve a crack at AFC, rather than the same old names that have been around the block locally and have never ammounted to anything.
