A NEW football camp has hit the back of the net in Ulverston.

Children spent a week at Ulverston Leisure Centre working with two of the young members of staff in a series of games, drills and matches.

Is the first time the centre has run a football-specific camp, complementing the regular multi-sports activities and tennis sessions across the summer holidays.

More than 20 youngsters spent the five days inside and outside at the facility having fun and learning new skills, and the leisure centre's Hannah Paling was pleased with how it all went.

She said: “It's taken off this year and we've had more than 20 kids on. We had two young footballer lads running it and they've done well.

“There were a lot of fun games and competitions like Wembley and such, but with the younger ones they also worked on a lot of the basics, like passing, dribbling and shooting.

“Then they played a lot of matches. Kids just want to do that a lot and we give them that chance.”

The groups were split into two age groups, with the five to seven-year-olds and eight-plus groups sometimes coming together in big matches.

“You've got kids who do just want to play football all day,” added Paling. “This is ideal for them.

“There are some who don't want to play football all day, but with those we have other activities anyway.”
