Cherrybrook U16s 1 Vickerstown U16s 8

VICKERSTOWN Under-16s reached the semi-finals of the Lancashire FA Cup with a demolition of Cherrybrook.

In a game switched to a 3G pitch in Wigan following two postponements in Furness due to the wet weather, the Walney side dominated their hosts from start to finish.

Last season's semi finalists has no response to the Barrow and District JFL side's goalscoring power, with Tom Dawson the star of the show, netting four.

Vickerstown started the game playing into the wind, and straight from the kick-off they were playing in a positive fashion, keeping the ball down on the deck and knocking it around confidently, though without creating many chances.

This was to change on 15 minutes, as they worked play to the dangerous Dawson, who beat a Cherrybook defender on the edge of the area and coolly slotted past the keeper to give Vickerstown a deserved lead.

The goal seemed to give Vickerstown a lift, as they they broke forward at will, with further goals from Dawson, Max Green and Will Maguire giving them a five-goal cushion, and leaving the home team shell shocked.

Cherrybrook did try to respond, but their efforts were thwarted by two excellent saves from Jay Barker in the Town goal, while they also hit the post on two occasions.

The hosts did manage to get the ball in the net before the break, finally beating Barker from a corner on the stroke of half-time to cut the lead to 5-1.

The second half started with Vickerstown able to thwart the frustrated Cherrybrook attackwhile looking to add to their five-goal tally.

Further goals from Dawson, a Green penalty, and Jack Litherland enabled the Barrow side to run out comfortable winners in a game predicted to be a tight affair beforehand.

As the referee blew for full-time, Vickerstown had booked a semi-final appearance for the second season in succession, with a dominant display in which every player contributed.

Vickerstown will travel to the winners of the tie between Radcliffe Borough and Roach Dynamos in the semi-finals, with Feniscowles hosting Ribbleton in the other last-four encounter.
