Ulverston Predators U11s 3 Holker Old Boys Reds U11s 0

ULVERSTON took their first step towards an under-11s treble with victory in the Barrow JFL KO Cup final.

The Predators dominated at Holker Street, with a brace from Russell Ferguson and a goal from Max Winder earning them victory in the torrential rain.

It was a first cup final meeting for the sides – though they will meet again in the Furness FA Cup final at Crooklands next week – and Ulverston took the game to their opponents from the start.

Slick passing and movement was met with a strong will to keep them out by the Holker defenders.

This pattern continued for 20 minutes, with Holker restricted to the odd break which was quickly dealt with by the Ulverston defence.

The deadlock was broken as quick passing and movement from the Ulverston midfield trio saw the ball reach Ferguson, who finished with a right-footed strike into the bottom corner.

Five minutes later the Predators were two-up following great movement and a run by Winder, who finished off his own move.

Old Boys were hanging on now as Cayden Butler and Jonty O’Neill took control of the centre of midfield for Ulverston, both pulling the strings.

It was a through ball from Butler which found Ferguson, who finished for his second to make it 3-0 at the break.

Holker kicked off the second half and the game followed much the same pattern as the first.

Ulverston were on the attack and Holker defending, with Old Boys captain Ethan Canavan outstanding in the centre of defence, along with Ellis Banks and Jamie Smith, who gave their all against a very strong Ulverston team.

Archie Reay had the best chance for Holker, which was well saved by the Ulverston keeper.

No further goals were scored and clear chances were limited in the second half as Holker battled to the end.

Best for Ulverston in a great team performance were Winder, Ferguson, O’Neill and Butler.

Both teams will meet again on May 11.
