SWARTHMOOR Under-14s started their season in style with two big victories in the Kent Valley Junior Football League.

Moor recorded 14-0 and 16-0 triumphs over Grange United and Kendal Colts respectively in the space of three days to kick-off their campaign in the best possible fashion.

The season started with a convincing scoreline in their first competitive match, beating a gallant and much improved Grange United team who never stopped trying.

The result was never in doubt, despite Swarthmoor taking their time to find the net in the first half, but a late flurry of goals before the break saw them go in 6-0 up.

A strong team performance and some first-class play from every one of squad provided excellent entertainment for the watching parents on a cold, summer evening.

Goals came from Freddie Burrow (5), Kyle McKendry (3), Arran Pender (3), Adam Kirby, George Dearden and Max Crewdson.

Back in action against Kendal, there may have been some player changes to give everyone game time, but there was no difference to the standard of play, with fine passing and teamwork giving the Moor youngsters another commanding victory.

A nine goal first-half romp was followed by seven in the second half and a hatful of misses to keep the score down.

There was spirited play from the away team, but the power, strength and team play from Swarthmoor was just too much to handle.

It was another excellent football display to keep the spectators happy on a sunny morning at the Park Road pitches in Ulverston.

Goals this time came from Jack Milburn (6), Pender (5), McKendry (2), Max Nisbet, Kirby and Euan Turner.

There will be tougher matches to come for Swarthmoor, but this was a great start to the season and the opportunity to blow away the cobwebs.
