Kendal Colts U14s 0 Swarthmoor U14s 10

SWARTHMOOR Under-14s showed no signs of ring rust as they returned from a two-month absence with a 10-goal spectacular to reach the Jackson Cup final.

Having been without a Kent Valley League or Cup game since February 5, due to waterlogged pitches, it was a strange experience to see the sun to be shining on a bumpy pitch at Jubilee Playing Fields, Kendal.

The fear was Swarthmoor would be a bit rusty, but a three-goal burst in the first five minutes soon put paid to that.

Bustling centre forward Arran Pender found the net twice, finishing off some great moves, with Moor's intense pressure leading to their third from an unfortunate own goal.

Only some poor finishing kept the score down at this stage, as a demoralised Kendal were finding it difficult to keep the Whites from running amok.

Swarthmoor’s good lead-up work was causing all sorts of problems for the Colts defence, which the tireless Jack Milburn took full advantage of by firing in a hat-trick by half-time thanks to some fine finishing and combination work with Kyle McKendry.

Mitchell Baldwin easily tucked away number seven before the whistle gave the Kendal defenders some respite during the break.

The second half continued as the first, and only some wayward finishing and a more resolute Colts defence kept the score to 10, with two goals from McKendry and one from Max Crewdson easing Swarthmoor into their second cup final of the season.

There are a lot of big matches ahead Moor in both the league and cups, as they battle for silverware along with Milnthorpe and District and Kendal Rockets.

They are set to play their first home match since September on Sunday, when Ambleside visit Park Road (10.30am kick-off).
