AFTER triumphing at the 2015 Coniston 14 race, Ulverston’s Harry Stainton was once again on the podium at this year’s event.

This time the Black Combe Runners ace had to settle for third place, behind winner Sam Stead, of Keswick AC, and runner-up Lewis Rodgers, of Loftus and Whitby AC.

Stead flew round the testing 14-mile course around Coniston Water in an impressive time of 1.16.28, on aday when a bumper field of 1.098 runners tested themselves in near-perfect conditions.

In a tight finish, Rodgers got over the line just two seconds behind in 1.16.30. Stainton was four minutes back in 1.20.35.

Bowness-based Matt Wilson took 17th spot in 1.25.37 in Kendal AAC colours, while Paul Reilly, of Coniston Runners, finished 20th in 1.26.25.

Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers veteran Gary Dover had a good run to land 35th place in a time of 1.29.30 to finish third in the MV50 category. Dover has been in terrific form, having claimed first MV50 and 22nd overall in the Haweswater Half Marathon in 1.25.28.

Nuneaton Harriers runner Eleanor Fowler retained her ladies crown, coming home in a time of 1.28.16 to land 27th place overall.

Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers’ Sharon Dixon – winner of the Christmas Pudding 10k in December – showed she is still in good form as she landed an excellent 17th place in 1.42.13.

Other finishers for Hoad Hill Harriers were Tom Southward 1.38.12, Phil Horrocks 1.39.33, Ken Lamb 1.42.31, Graham Pinder 1.42.42 Pat Thomas 1.48.34 (3rd MV65), Jo McLeod 1.50.39 (2nd FV50), Paul Quinn 1.58.48, Julie Hunter 1.58.54, Stevie Barron 1.59.01 (FV55 5th), Amanda Jenkins 2.06.10, Deborah Yearnshire 2.06.36, Victoria Thompson 2.08.38, Cara Taylor 2.12.57, Pamela McGee 2.13.57, Karl Fursey 2.14, Kathy Edmondson 2.26.51, Karen Morgan 2.28.43, and Penny Moreton 2.49.06.
