One of those attending the event at the Crossbar, Barrow AFC, on Saturday night (7.30pm) is Graham Tattersall who remembers his time riding for Barrow with fondness.
Tattersall, who lives in the Burnley area, admits it will be a bit emotional returning to the town and seeing other former riders, and he is really looking forward to seeing the fans who cheered the team on in the early 1970s.
He said: “All the lads really enjoyed the days we rode for Barrow and were really proud to do so.
“We were one big happy family and it’s fantastic that John Earnshaw, who now lives in Accrington, has worked so hard and got so many of us back to Holker Street to say a proper thank-you to the people who supported us, and not forgetting the other lads who rode for the other Barrow sides in the 1980s up Park Road.”
He added: “Speedway legend Peter Collins is attending too, which is no mean feat to pull off as well as making the event a sell-out.
“The memories and the tears will be flowing. It’s a shame the generation of today in Barrow can’t share the times speedway gave people in Barrow now, as they really were the good old days.”
