MATTY Hill made Barrow Monday League history on his march to the individual snooker title.

Hill claimed the trophy at the Greengate Club after beating Neil Rezamand in the last four and Danny MacDonald in the final.

But it was the fashion in which he claimed the crown which dazzled all those watching.

Leading 3-0 in the best- of-seven frames match, Hill complied a break of 128 – the highest ever recorded in the history of the Barrow Monday League – to seal victory in stunning style.

Hill had started the evening with a 3-1 success against Rezamand in the semi-finals.

The Cottages man took took a cagey first frame 75-39 and soon made it 2-0 against his Central opponent by winning the second 68-15.

Rezamand responded by taking the third 48-37, only for Hill to clinch frame four 62-34.

Cottages potter MacDonald was also a 3-1 victor, defeating British Legion’s Mike Smith in the second semi.

The match was a mirror image of the first encounter, with MacDonald winning the first two frames, 62-17 and 56-22, only to see Smith on the board with a 58-23 success in the third.

MacDonald sealed his place in the final with a convincing 92-23 victory in frame four.

Hill started the final in great style, knocking in breaks of 35 and 38 to win the opener 73-45.

He also took a tight frame two and quickly went 3-0 up with a convincing 73-16 success in the third.

Just one frame away from the cup, Hill saw a frustrated MacDonald break the pack of reds from behind, scattering them everywhere.

After a couple of safety shots from both players, Hill potted the first red and proceeded to clear the table for his brilliant 128 break to claim a convincing victory.

The Barrow Monday League thanked the Greengate Club for the use of their facilities and Allan Edmondson and Mal Hill for refereeing.
