Duddon Sports U12s 0 Furness Cavaliers U12s 10

FURNESS Cavaliers made it a perfect 10 as they marched to victory in the Ulverston Hospitals Cup final.

The under-12s kings battled hard against tough Duddon resistance in the first half before adding a flurry of goals late on.

The Holker Street triumph added to their win in the Barrow JFL final against league champions Walney a week earlier.

A competitive game was played out from the start and both teams rose to the occasion.

Duddon put up a good fight against strong opponents and there were chances for both teams in the early stages, with some good work in the Sports defence keeping the score at 0-0.

Cavaliers struck first from a good ball through the middle to Brady France, who flicked it over and volleyed into the bottom corner.

They continued to attack down both flanks, but were denied further goals from a combination of great saves from the goalkeeper and good tackling from the Duddon defence.

The Askam side went close on a couple of occasions from balls over the top, but they were dealt with by keeper Ashton Keighley.

Just before half-time, a good ball from Max Winskill opened up the defence for Jed Philip to latch on and finish well to make it 2-0.

There were a few more chances before half-time for Cavs that went wide of the goal before the whistle blew.

The start of the second half saw Duddon apply pressure on the Cavaliers goal and, but for some good defending from Hayden Rooney and Archie Hall, they would have pulled one back.

However, they were caught on the counter-attack and Furness added a third five minutes after the break. A good ball from Samson Storey through to Sol Stanway beat the defence and Stanway finished well to make it 3-0. The goal seemed to affect Duddon and Cavaliers quickly added a fourth through Storey, ending any hopes their opponents had of staging a comeback.

Joseph McGladdery netted number five and Duddon conceded a penalty midway through the half, which Storey converted just to the left of the keeper.

Duddon had opportunities in the second half and came close on a few occasions, testing the keeper and hitting the post.

Cavaliers pushed on and started to pass the ball better, which created a good goal from Philip, before Joe Amison scored a great individual goal.

The match was finished off with two Max Winskill goals, though Duddon played well and never gave up.

The conduct and attitude of all the players was excellent throughout and the match was a joy for all the spectators to watch.

The officials handled the game expertly and all decisions were made correctly.

Cavaliers go on to next week’s Barrow JFL KO Cup final aiming for the treble.
