The battle for second and third was even closer, with MacKenzie edging out Fisher's Hoad Hill club-mate Zachary Davies by just two seconds.

Holly Murray, of Barrow and Furness Striders, was the first girl to cross the line in a time of 6.21, finishing nearly 40 seconds clear of her nearest rivals.

Felicity Boyle (7.04) and fellow Hoad Hill runner Amelia Thompson (7.17) were second and third respectively in the girls' category.

In total, 52 runners from the Striders, Barrow ABC, Walney and host club Hoad Hill, plus a large number not affiliated with clubs, took part in the race.
