BUDDING footballers again descended on Chetwynde School for the Barrow and District Junior Football League's annual futsal tournament.

The long-running tournament was held in conjunction with Barrow AFC's community department and has become a regular fixture for the area's youth teams.

The under-eights competition saw both boys and girls from sides such as Holker Old Boys Juniors, Millom, Walney Island Juniors and Vickerstown taking part.

Although officially a friendly competition, with no overall winner named for the tournament, the weeks of action saw some great matches as the various teams battled it out.

And while the FA have started to push futsal for younger age groups recently to help with their technical development, youth players in Barrow have been able to enjoy its benefits for a number of years.

“This is the sixth year we have been running this tournament and it has been a big success,” said Barrow AFC community coach Brad Hubbold, who was running the event along with Joshua Jones.

The youngsters involved will get the chance to run out on the main pitch in May when the annual Holker Street Sixes takes place, with age groups from under-sevens all the way up to under-12s involved.
