SOUTH and West Cumbria shared the spoils as hundreds of footballers laced up their boots for the Walney Island Junior Football Tournament.
Teams from 19 clubs from across the county descended on Tummerhill for competitions for under-sevens up to under-16s.
Under the baking sun, Whitehaven Amateurs and Workington Rangers both went back up the coast with trophies, while Furness Cavaliers, Vickerstown and the hosts club did likewise for Barrow and District Junior Football League sides.
The morning session saw the Under-sevens, under-nines, under-11s and under-14s take to the field in front of large numbers of supporting parents and friends, while the afternoon session saw the under-eights, under-10s, under-12s and under-16s in action, with some fantastic football played in a great atmosphere.
The under-sevens and under-eights played in a non-competitive round-robin format, with under-nines upwards on a competitive basis.
It was at under-14s level where hosts club Walney enjoyed their success, with the club's Blues team taking the honours with victory over Furness Cavaliers in the final.
Cavaliers did enjoy glory of their own at under-11s level, with a final triumph against Vickerstown, whose under-16s team took that title, with Ulverston Rangers finishing as runners-up.
Walney Island Juniors thanked their tournament sponsors for their support on the day. They are: A Thorne, Plasterer and Builder; Ulverston Window Systems; Cleanwright; The Bakery; Dave Willan; Day Cummings; M&P Gadsden; Ridge Roofing; Beauty By Paige; Heritage Construction; and Jagger Heating and Plumbing.
They also thanked all the volunteers who helped on the day, especially Dave Stockdale, who has organised the competition for several years.
