Ulverston Rangers Predators U12s 3 Holker Old Boys Reds U12s 2

ULVERSTON Rangers completed a cup double as they added the KO Cup crown to their Furness FA triumph with victory over Holker Old Boys Reds.

Ulverston had beaten Holker Greens 4-0 in the FA Cup showdown at Crooklands, and they did for their Rakesmoor Lane counterparts on the green grass of Holker Street.

Max Winder was the main menace as the Predators went into a 2-0 lead, but league champions Holker – who inflicted the only league defeat of the season on Ulverston when winning 3-1 in February – would not sit down and be beaten.

They pulled a goal back as a Harvey Salton free-kick into the area bounced about and, amid the melee, Zac Elner was the player to stick out a boot and put it in the back of the net.

Evan McQuistan restored the two-goal cushion for Predators, but Holker struck back once more in the final minute as Salton found the back of the net with a speculative effort from distance which somehow squeezed past the keeper.

Ulverston were able to hold on until the final whistle to add to their trophy haul.

Holker manager Paul Cresswell felt his side had been the better team before the break, but has no qualms as to the final result.

He said: “We probably edge the first half, and we had a few more chances, but paid for our mistakes.

“In the second half, the discipline that Gav (Butler, the Ulverston manager) instils in their team meant they took a grip of it, and we can have no complaints about the result.

“From where we have come from, it has been a brilliant season.”

The sides meet again tonight at Holker Street in the final of the Ulverston Hospitals Cup.
