GYMNASTICS has really taken off at Ulverston Leisure Centre this year.

Coach Naomi Wojcik has taken a number of newcomers under her wing, running regular sessions and special camps.

Ulverston Leisure Centre's Hannah Paling has been thrilled with the success, as boys and girls have learnt the basics of the sport and advanced as the year has gone on.

The year ended with a special four-hour camp for the youngsters, who filled into the tennis centre in Ulverston one last time – with the cold conditions inside during the winter meaning the sessions will start up again in the spring.

“Naomi is our gymnastics coach and this is relatively new for us,” said Paling. “We've just finished our weekly sessions, but to finish off we wanted to do a gymnastics camp, because a lot of the kids really love it, and there isn't anything else like this in Ulverston.

“We did a lot of basic gymnastics stuff and they all got a certificate at the end.

“Quite a lot of them came who already go to the sessions on Fridays, so we have quite a few followers from that, but there were a few new ones as well. It was really popular.”

She added: “Because of the tennis centre being cold at this time of year, there will probably not be any more gymnastics until April, but then we will look at doing it again.

“There is the chance to do another gymnastics camp in the school holidays and to start the Fridays up again with the after-school sessions. It has been really popular.”
