THE curtain came down on a long, action-packed season at Barrow AFC's home with the youngsters flocking to the Holker Street Sixes competition.

In some of the final matches played under the distinctive floodlight pylons – which are due to be taken down in the near future – children from under-eights up to under-12s levels enjoyed two days of action.

The first tournaments saw the under-nines and under-10s on the field, with the Holker Street Cup in the younger age-group claimed by Kendal United, while Furness Rovers Whites took the Challenge Cup with victory against Crooklands Casuals Blacks in the final.

Leek Wootton made their long trip from Warwickshire worthwhile as they took the under-10s Holker Street Cup, with Holker Old Boys claiming the Challenge Cup for the age group after defeating Swarthmoor in the final.

Vickerstown needed sudden-death penalties to win the under-11s Holker Street Cup, eventually overcoming Kendal United Colts 7-6 on spot-kicks.

It was the second time Vickerstown had come through a shootout, having beaten Hawcoat Park Dynamos in the semi-finals after a 1-1 draw.

Holker Old Boys Eagles took home the Challenge Cup following a 1-0 victory against Wattsfield in the final.

In the under-12s event, Furness Rovers were the Holker Street Cup winners, with Barrow Celtic taking the Challenge Cup honours. Holker Old Boys finished as runners-up in both competitions.
