Hawcoat Park U14s 1 Walney Island Blues U14s 2

(after extra-time, 1-1 after 60 minutes)

WALNEY made it a league and cup treble as they inflicted extra-time agony on Hawcoat Park at Holker Street.

The Barrow and District League and Furness FA Cup champions overcame their rivals once more after a tense match at the home of Barrow AFC.

Having beaten Park on penalties in the FA final on the same ground just days earlier, this time went as far as extra-time, with Patrick Cush heading home to settle the tie.

Hawcoat started the stronger of the sides, but as in the earlier encounter, there was little to separate them.

Park pushed forward and looked to put Walney under pressure, which paid off with a first-half goal as a corner from Kane Fleming was swung into the area, where Rory Hampson was unable to take it properly, and the ball bounced off the back of the head of a defender and dropped into the net.

Both sides were putting in good tackles to restrict clear-cut chances, but Hawcoat could have doubled their lead as Morgan Trelore broke down the left and cut into the area, where he was brought down by a Walney defender for a penalty.

Trelore, who had scored from the spot to send the FA Cup final to penalties, hit the post with this effort, handing Walney a way back into the tie.

Walney came out stronger after the break, pushing for an equaliser and seeing Hawcoat sit back more under pressure.

A long ball into the area from the right saw Hawcoat keeper Oscar Jones come out under pressure, with the ball falling to the feet of Bailey Morello, who rolled it home.

With no further goals coming in normal time, five minutes each-way of extra-time were played, with Walney scoring in fortunate circumstances in the first period.

A corner came in to the near post, where Corey Fittes headed away, only for it to hit the back of Cush's head and loop back over the keeper and into the net for the winner.

Hawcoat were denied a penalty when Jack McKechnie went down in the area late on, but they could not find their way to an equaliser.
