MILLOM face neighbours Askam in the Barton Townley Cup final at Craven Park tomorrow and plan to go one better than last season when they were beaten by an extra-time drop-goal from Walney’s Mark McKinley (7pm kick-off).

Winners of the first Barton Townley final back in 1982, when they defeated Barrow Island and Steve Brooks collected the Bob Brady Man of the Match award, Millom are aiming to lift the trophy for the tenth time.

In-form Askam, lying second in Division Two of the National Conference – one division below Millom – are looking for their third win in the competition. Their first came back in 1993 against tomorrow’s opponents, while the Villagers have been the bridesmaids in seven other finals, including a defeat to Walney in 2013.

Both sides will go into tomorrow’s final without key players as they are on duty with the touring BARLA Under-23 party in Jamaica. Millom go into battle without player-coach Tom Sibley, who is the tourists’ assistant coach, and hooker Marcus O’Brien.

Askam are minus their top forward Tom Hopkins who will be linking up with O’Brien within the Great Britain pack out in the Caribbean. Referee for the 34th staging of the Barton Townley Cup final is Rob McAloone.

There is a curtain-raiser taking place between Askam and Millom’s under-10s sides.

Gates open at 5.45pm for a 6.15pm kick-off.

Admission prices (for both games) are: adults £5; concessions £3; Under-16s £1.
