SIX members of Duddon Canoe Club have been crowned Wildwater Racing national champions.

Conner Bentley, Hadley Cartmel, Owen Wilson, Victoria Longstaff, Nadine Merrick and Emily Longstaff achieved the feat after impressive displays around the country.

All six took age-group titles after a series of races against their peers, with points awarded in each depending upon their finishing position.

At the end of the season the paddler’s top five scores are added together and the top scorer in every age group is the national champion.

There was stiff competition in some of the age categories, with other members of the Duddon team pushing the eventual winners all the way to the final race of the season.

Duddon’s successes came mainly in the kayak category, though Emily Longstaff triumphed in a canoe.

The winners were: Under-10s K1 boy: Conner Bentley; Under-12s K1 boy: Hadley Cartmel; Under-14s K1 boy: Owen Wilson; Under-14s K1 girl: Victoria Longstaff; Under-16s K1 girl: Nadine Merrick; Under-16s C1 girl: Emily Longstaff.
