FOUR Chetwynde School swim stars are celebrating after winning gold at the National Primary Schools Swimming Championship finals.

Jamie-Leigh Tyson, Felicity Boyle, Ashton Pharoah and Imogen Stoker produced stunning displays in the international pool at Ponds Forge, Sheffield.

The quartet – also members of either Barrow or Ulverston Amateur Swimming Clubs – won the medley relay and finished second in the freestyle relay, to be crowned as joint overall English National Schools champions.

Tyson, Boyle, Pharoah and Stoker qualified for the national event after becoming North West small schools champions, going on to represent the region against 24 top teams from across the country.

Chetwynde swam superbly in the heats of both the freestyle and medley relays, recording personal best times to qualify for finals in first place.

They backed that up with medley final success, and were just pipped to gold in the freestyle event.

Swim coach Manny Boyd said: “It's an amazing result, but well deserved. The team were a credit to themselves and the school.

“This is the 23rd consecutive time Chetwynde have appeared in the national finals, and the school is very proud of this achievement, as the only school in the country to do so.

“The boys and girls have worked and trained so hard for this.”

The team would thanked Brad Stoker, from Furness Park Motors, who provided them with all their kit.
