AINTREE winner Highland Lodge is among a bumper 126 entries for the 2016 Grand National.

James Moffatt’s Cartmel-trained horse has been installed as a 50/1 shot by the bookies after entries closed on Tuesday.

Highland Lodge came up trumps for Moffatt’s stable when taking victory over the Grand National fences in the Betfred Becher Chase in December.

It was a first run for his new stables, having been bought at auction from previous handler Emma Lavelle.

Moffatt last had an entry in the National – which this year starts an hour later on Saturday, April 9 – in 2011, when Chief Dan George finished 17th.

He must now await the handicap for the race, which will be released on February 16, to see if 10-year-old Highland Lodge, owned by Bowes Lodge Stables, is likely to make the final cut of 40 horses.
