CUMBRIA League leaders Workington provide the stiffest of tests for Millom tomorrow as the season enters its final month.

Hawcoat Park also face a key clash in their relegation battle, while Ambleside hope for a return to action.

Millom v Workington

(Wilson Park, 3pm)

MILLOM have enjoyed some great results of late and will be looking to upset the applecart again as they take on Cumbria League table-toppers Workington Zebras.

The Zebras have been having a great season, but they cannot afford any slip-ups.

On home turf, Millom could well blow the league wide open with victory.

Craig Mounsey and Jordan Moyes will be the key men in the middle at half-back, providing the link between forwards and backs.

The pack will see Steve Watson, Dean Doyle and Kevin Rogan at the fore of most things, with Keiron Coulson and Ian Cummings in the engine room pushing them on in the tight and in the loose.

Joe Thomlinson moves from his regular second row position to take up a role in the centres with Ryan Carter. These two appear to be like chalk and cheese, but with the strong running of Thomlinson and the silky flair of Carter, it looks like a match made in heaven.

A strong back row of Joe Laydon, James Wilson and Matthew Jordan sees plenty of options all over the park. James Falconer will be clearing things up from the back as Millom put out a slightly weakened side due to work commitments.

Ambleside v Carlisle 3rds

(Galava Park, 3pm)

AMBLESIDE are on home turf again as they look to climb the Cumbria League Two table.

Some of the rugby they have played this year has been brilliant and belies their bottom-half position.

They will be hoping Carlisle travel, as they have been let down of late with some non-fulfillments, and would like to get their show back on the road.

Last week saw them without opponents for the second week in succession, but on the plus-side the club did gain its full RFU Accreditation, the result of members putting in a lot of hard work.

Club captain Paul Longster said: “This is a great moment for the club, which up to a couple of years ago, didn’t exist due to folding many years previous.

“We are very proud of what we have achieved in a short space of time.”

Longster will be in the second row tomorrow, alongside his new up-and-coming partner Andrew Clayton.

Dave Clarke will be leading the back row of Rory Seeking and Pip Houghton into battle, looking to take every opportunity in front of them.

Will Lord, at fly-half, will be hopeful of good quick ball from half-back partner Keenan Longster so they can get the back division on the front foot.

Helping with clean ball will be the colossus of a front row in the shape of Steve Bragg, Greg Stephenson and Paul Aires, clearing the ruck and taking the ball up. Simeon Lee will be looking to the wide men of Tim Horsfall and Rory Townsend in attack to back him up.

Fleetwood v Hawcoat PARK

AFTER the disappointment of last week’s 24-21 defeat at Silloth in what was a spirited performance, Hawcoat are on the road yet again as they try to retain their North Lancashire/Cumbria League status.

Hawcoat need to pull together more than ever to try and come up with a couple of good results to keep them in the league.

Ash Mowat and Adam Grainger will be leading the team from the front in their second row/hooker positions respectively.

Jason Priss should return to bolster the front three and team up with Grainger and one of John Donnan, Ryan Milner or Brad Morrow.

The back row will be hoping for a better afternoon as Mike Lightfoot, Will Mallinson and Dan White look to give the forwards their get up and go.

Keswick A v Hawcoat PARK A

HAWCOAT seconds are also on the road as the third-placed Cumbria League Two side travel to struggling Keswick.

A defeat on the road at Aspatria last weekend came at a cost, with stalwart Martin Heywood and young gun Luke Shaw both leaving the pitch injured.

Martin Kennedy and Adam Williamson will be looking to the squad to get back in the groove with another win under their belts.

Dan Hayes on the wing will be looking to the man inside him, Jay Crowe, to get the ball to hand sooner, while Paul Woodburn and Jordan Garnett are proving to be a hit up front.

Lewis Sayle’s flare from full-back has been impressive this year and it is hoped he will be good to go, along with excellent fly-half Euan James.
