GLAXO Hoad Hill Harriers were blessed with glorious conditions as they hosted their first road race of the year in memory of former club member Paul Jarvis.

Four races held over Jarvis’ favourite one-mile course gave competitors the opportunity to beat their previous times on a flat, fast route in south Ulverston.

The junior race saw youngsters from Harriers and Walney Wind Cheetahs among those competing.

Heading home in first was unattached runner Sarah Knaggs, in 7.43, followed by Harriers’ Amelia Thompson and Phoebe Atkinson.

Rosie Yearnside finished fourth and was followed by Caitlin Doyle, Layla Byrne and Clara Mayer.

The junior boys were second to take up the challenge down toward the coast and back to the spectating crowd in front of the Glaxo clubhouse.

Heading the strong field was Conner O’Hara, in 6.03, ahead of his Glaxo Hoad Hill Harriers club-mates Edward Sargent and Conner Braithwaite.

Gabriel Armistead was fourth, followed by Thomas Sargent, Morgan Griffiths, Seth Kelly, Nathan Caine, Oscar Yearnside, Tristan Mayer, Alex Donnelly, Quinlen Doyle, William Jones Barnes, Dougie Mitchell and Sam Jones Barnes.

The senior women’s event saw Hoad Hill’s Sharon Dixon head the field in 6.02, in front of Abigail Howie and Joanne Donnelly, of the host club.

Lancaster and Morecambe AC’s Marc Gardner won the men’s race in 5.09, ahead of Ian Sadler, from Barrow Striders, and Andy Jackson, of Glaxo.
