GAME 13 in the Alan Myerscough-sponsored Ulverston and District Bowling League proved unlucky for most of the away teams in Division Two.

However, this wasn’t the case for the seemingly invincible Red River, this week’s victims beings Walney Park A who were defeated 11-3.

David Jones and merit leader Barry Lowden were the big winners for the Reddies, with Jim Wood rolling back the years in his victory for the Park.

The only other away victory came at The Coop’s Dane Avenue green where West Shore returned a terrific 11-4 win to stay in second place. Young Jamie Boardman was in unstoppable form at the top of the sheet and was well supported by Roger Holmes and Paul Wrathall.

At the other end of the table Roose A are still searching for their first win, this week suffering a heavy 12-2 defeat on a Kirkby green that was running so fast that the game didn’t finish until almost 10pm.

Peter Lee and David Tray found it to their liking with great single-figure wins for the home side, while Bob Maltman won at top man for Roose, whose other point was won by Brian Doyle.

Ulverston Cons and Lindal Moor A fought out a close battle, taking six games each. However, thanks to a terrific win by Les Preston the Cons managed to counteract the fact they had had to give a game away and took the aggregate points and the game 8-6.

Dalton CC A also won their game against Kings Head 8-6. However it was much more comfortable for them with five of the games being single-figure victories. James Bridle and Alan Haines led the way. Harry Tomsett continued his great form to reply for the Kings.

West Mount earned a resounding 11-3 win at home to Glaxo A. Jack Hawkrigg was unstoppable in his 21-2 victory with Norman Parker weighing in with a 21-6 victory of his own. For the chemists Paul Woodward replied with a 21-10 win with Dave Moore also comfortable in victory.

The other game scheduled between Salthouse A and Askam A was postponed.

With three games being given away as walkovers, clubs are reminded that the loan system is there to try and stop such situations arising. Please try and use it when needed.
