YOUNGSTERS got the chance to try their hand at many different activities at multi-sports camps held in Barrow.

Furness College staged two three-day courses during the summer holidays when groups of six to 12-year-old girls and boys flocked to the main sports hall at Channelside for some fun-filled days.

Eager children got to have a go at a variety of sports, including rounders, dodgeball, handball, cricket, football, table tennis and tennis.

And Furness College sports maker Ross Liddicott was impressed with the turnout and the sporting skills on show.

“We did lots of different activities,” he said. “We were trying to get a good mix of sports so that the young girls and boys could enjoy them together.

“We also had a mini Olympics-style event when the the kids split into teams and had to complete little challenges.

“It was very much an opportunity to trial different sports and work on basic co-ordination skills, and just for them to have fun.”

The camps proved a big hit – so much so that there are plans to hold them every half-term during the college year.

“We thought it would be a good opportunity for people to come and see what the college has to offer, added Liddicott.

“They proved really popular so I can think they will be a regular thing.”
