Milnthorpe and District U14s 1 Swarthmoor 5

SWARTHMOOR marched into the quarter-finals of the Westmorland FA Dallam Tower Cup as Jack Milburn netted all five goals in an outstanding display at Milnthorpe.

The match provided Moor's first real test of the season, against a home team who won last year's Kent Valley League title and cup.

But it ended in an impressive and decisive 5-1 win for the visitors at Holme Playing Fields.

Despite conceding their customary early goal, this time within the first minute of the match, Swarthmoor hit straight back with an equaliser from Milburn to calm any early nerves.

They then dominated the match and played some fantastic passing football to go in at half-time 3-1 up, with two further goals from Milburn to complete his hat trick, even managing to chip the towering 6ft 5ins Milnthorpe goalkeeper, a giant presence at 13 years old.

The second half was one-way traffic, with Swarthmoor controlling all the play. Milburn scored another two goals to end the day with all five and a man-of-the-match performance.

There were some impressive individual performances, with Jack McKechnie commanding in defence, and a goal-line clearance of the season coming from Euan Turner to keep Moor's advantage intact.

Overall though, it was an even more impressive all-round team performance to the delight of the travelling parents and family.

Swarthmoor now have a semi-final match to look forward to against Ambleside in March.
