THE netball heritage of Chetwynde School continues to grow apace after they qualified for the Furness finals of the Cumbria School Games High-Five competition.

Chetwynde and St Columba's won through the Walney and Furness Catholic cluster event at Hoops.

Teams of Years 5 and 6 pupils – made up of five girls and two boys, with five players on the court at any one time – came from Holy Family, St Pius, Sacred Heart and South Walney Juniors as well for the event.

They were spilt into two groups, with the winners of each advancing to the Furness finals. The champions there go on to the Cumbria School Games.

The competition was overseen by St Bernard’s Year 10 pupils, who oversaw fast-paced games as players rotated positions throughout matches.

Players changed positions at the end of each period with their roles differing in each – only two of them being allowed to shoot for goal while others were in defensive positions.
