HAWCOAT Park and Ambleside are the only South Cumbrian teams at home this weekend and both face tough opposition.

Furness, Millom and Windermere all hit the road hoping for action after a continually disrupted winter.

Hawcoat Park v Aspatria

(Hawcoat Park, 2.15pm)

HAWCOAT Park look to build on last week’s superb 22-3 win over Upper Eden when they entertain North Lancs/ Cumbria League high-fliers Aspatria.

It will be a tough battle against the second-placed side, but Hawcoat will be looking to select strongly as they bid to climb out of the danger zone.

Skipper Adam Grainger will be in the thick of it at hooker, with John Donnan and Jason Priss for company. The second-row partnership of Callum Ramsey and Ash Mowat looked great last time out so they will look to continue their dangerous duet.

Last week saw Matty Sayle playing at centre, but he may move back to his favoured number eight role, with Grady Slater possibly available to partner Jack Sutherland.

Mike Lightfoot, Tim Clarke, Will Mallinson and Dan White will fight it out for the other two back row jerseys.

Link man Antony Munday has been having a great season and his partnership with James Howden will be pivotal.

Hawcoat’s second team travel to Penrith to face Carlisle – with Carlisle’s pitch still out of bounds after the floods.

Park A’s main man Euan James will be directing traffic from fly-half under the guidance of skipper Martin Kennedy from second row.

John Doherty’s big-game attitude will need to be switched on as the squad look to consolidate their second-place standing in Cumbria League Two.

Ambleside v Whitehaven

(Galava Park, 2.15pm)

AFTER a narrow league and cup double-header defeat in a mudbath last weekend, Ambleside will be looking to put Whitehaven away.

The impressive Keenan Longster is looking a great prospect and will be taking up the mantle of scrum half, linking up with fly-half Matthew Middlesmiss.

Captain Paul Longster will lead the team from the second row, mixing it with partner-in-crime Reece Whitehouse.

Alfie White’s pick and drive game was brilliant last week so he will keep his jersey, with Paul Aires and Steve Bragg keeping him company in the front row.

The game could be won and lost in the back row, but with Dave Clarke, Rory Seekings and Pip Houghton at the helm, the squad will be keen to keep their get-up-and-go attitude.

The pace of wingmen James Greenwwod and Tim Horsefell could be key and, as such, they will be looking for plenty of ball to put Whitehaven to the sword, backed up in the main by full-back Lewis Kelly in a brilliant back three division.

Carlisle v Furness

FURNESS are also on the road as they head to the county capital for a Cumbria League clash.

After yet another postponement last week, the Blues will have their fingers crossed they get a game in tomorrow.

There are key personnel missing, but Furness should be fine as the second string have no game so there will be no problems.

Skipper Joe Mallinson, Dillon Taputu, Charlie Martin, Tez Nueto and Don Stewart are all missing. There is even a possibility that Paul Dean will be out, but they are hopeful he can travel.

The burden will fall on the shoulders of Rhys Studt and Steve Perry to get the team up for it and take them forward.

George Smith and Sam Dutton will have to be on top form to get good clean ball out to the back line from the forwards.

Furness welcome back Tadgh Butler, who will stiffen up the second row along with Corne Els, who will be champing on the bit to get the blue jersey back on after injury.

Cameron McClure at hooker is the top dog up front and will be looking to his two props to step up to the mark. Hopefully Dan Sayle will be good to go along with Sam Attard.

Creighton v Millom

MILLOM are also heading up north as they take on Creighton in the Cumbria League.

Like the majority of South Cumbrian clubs, Millom have fallen foul of the weather of late, with only a couple of games played since Christmas.

Tomorrow sees them take a mix of old-ish and young players to bottom club Creighton as the Wilson Park team look to build on previous results.

Ian Cummings captains the side and is more than capable of leading his troops into battle.

With no Ryan Carter or Dean Redhead, Jordan Moyes will be looked upon to control the link-up play between forwards and backs.

Trevor Dixon and Craig Mounsey in the centres can give the team the edge needed in attack and defence. Kieron Coulson and Tony Swales team up in a formidable second-row partnership, pushing Steve Watson, Dean Doyle and skipper Cummings on in the front three.

Doug Jardine takes up the scrum half role giving clean ball to Moyes and his backs. The finishing prowess of Jarty Robinson will be relied on, with full-back John Falconer always on hand to get the team over the whitewash. Colt Michael Kirkham turns 17 and takes up a position on the bench for his first open-age game.

Workington v Windermere

THE Ambers are also on the road tomorrow as they travel to Workington.

With Windermere fourth and the Zebras second, this is sure to be a humdinger of a Cumbria League game, with both sides capable of taking the win.

The captain’s role will be in the safe hands of James Crawford from full-back, with wing men Moses Dawson and Tom Atkinson willing helpers in covering the role and putting points on the board.

The front three of Joe Turner, Jamie Hardman and Dan Harrison are a real handful for any team and are likely to start for the Ambers.

Mere will be hoping for the back row of Leigh Wood, Paul Mahler and John Sheasby to all be fit and up for the fight ahead as they look to get good clean ball for Dan Nield at scrum half.

Brothers in arms Bertie and Rory Hodgson will make up part of the back line, along with Josh Holmes, and this partnership which can cause chaos for other teams going forward and break up attacks.
