HAWCOAT Park’s Junior Colts have the chance to claim some silverware tomorrow in the Colts Cup.

The Barrow side travel to Lymm, Cheshire, to take on Ashton for the right to be called champions.

The game comes on the back of a tough 27-26 semi-final win at home against Tarleton, while Ashton saw off Sefton 19-12 to reach the showpiece.

Ashton operate a league above Hawcoat in the Colts standings, leaving the South Cumbrian side with a big hill to climb tomorrow.

Maroon and Whites skipper Austin Meadows is hopeful they can scale the heights, and said: “We’ve had a hard season, with some huge wins and a couple of games we should have really won. We know what we are capable of, it’s up to us to do it and bring the trophy back.”

The Park squad is made up of players from Barrow, Walney, Dalton, Ulverston, Greenodd and Millom, with the net having been spread far and wide to get youngsters involved.

Most of the team members play both rugby league and rugby union.

Scrum half Jack Shannon is looking forward to the final test, and said: “I’ve never been so excited and up for a game of rugby. It’ll be a great experience for the boys and one we won’t forget.”

Joint-coach Roger Coles said: “This is a massive opportunity for the boys to see what it’s like playing top-flight rugby.

“No doubt there will be scouts from bigger clubs there looking to see if their next superstar is on the pitch. It’s a big opportunity for the lads to put themselves in the shop window.”

Fellow coach Paddy Loughran added: “These guys really deserve to be in this final after a hard season they can win the cup if they play anything like we know they can.”
