TOP British gymnast Hannah Whelan tumbled into Millom to help the town’s youngsters with their skills.

The two-time Olympian – who represented Great Britain at the 2008 and 2012 Games – guided members of Millom Gymnastics Club in a special coaching session.

Youngsters flocked to Millom Recreation Centre to take part, with dozens of them picking up tips on the floor, vault and other apparatus.

Whelan, who won team gold with England and individual all-round bronze at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, retired from competitive action last year.

But she retains a passion for the sport and followed Olympic medallist Beth Tweddle in travelling to Millom to pass on her knowledge to the booming club’s members.

Millom Recreation Centre manager Tracy Kirk, who is also one of the club’s coaches, said: “The visit was a huge success, all the children and coaches had a amazing day.

“Hannah also brought with her all her medals and leotards from all her previous competitions including the Commonwealth Games and the Olympics for the children to see, she spent the afternoon coaching children of all abilities, giving some fantastic tips to our gymnasts and coaches.

“It was an inspiring day for all the children and coaches, and we would love to welcome Hannah back for another visit in the future.”
