YOUNG gun Rebecca Rigg will become the third Barrow table tennis starlet to feature for Lancashire in quick succession this weekend.

The 12-year-old will follow in the recent footsteps of Furness CC team-mates Matty Rigg – her 14-year-old brother – and Ben McDonald, who represented the Red Rose last month.

Rebecca is part of the Lancashire Junior Girls second team who will travel to Draycott, Derbyshire, on Saturday to compete against Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire and two Durham teams.

The talented table tennis player is the top seed in the side, having just missed out on a place in the Lancashire first team.

She is only the second girl from the area to be picked for the county, following in the footsteps of England international Emily Bolton, from Askam.

Furness CC coach John Harrison is delighted to see his charge doing so well, and said: “It's an incredible achievement for Rebecca – and also for Ben and Matty.

“They work and train so hard, and it is great for the Furness club.”
