TABLE tennis duo Ben McDonald and Matty Flynn showed their skills as they picked up trophies at the Blackpool Two-Star competition.
The Furness CC teenagers battled through the tournament to claim the Cadet Boys title and Cadet Boys Plate respectively.
McDonald, 14, had a fine day in the Palatine Leisure Centre.
He beat his Lancashire team-mate Reece Davies, who is ranked number 27 in the country, 11-6, 11-9, 11-5 in the semi-finals, displaying the skills he regularly has on show for the Furness Junior team in the Barrow and District League.
McDonald followed up with a four-game victory over Cheshire's Harry Watson – ranked 19 in the country – 8-11, 11-7, 14-12, 11-8 to take the title.
Rigg claimed the Plate trophy with a win over Lancashire team-mate Alex Darlington in a tight final, winning 3-2.
Furness CC Juniors coach John Harrison was delighted for the pair, and said: “It was a superb day for the players and for Furness CC. I really want to say well done to the boys.”
