DERBIES are the order of the day tomorrow, with teams from Furness, Millom, Hawcoat and Ambleside all involved.

Games at the Strawberry Grounds and Hawcoat Park will be the centre of attention.

FURNESS v MILLOM

(Strawberry Grounds, 2.15pm)

FURNESS are back on home turf as they face familiar foes in Millom in a eagerly-anticipated Cumbria League derby.

Millom are on a slight winning streak so confidence will be high among the visiting ranks.

Furness have lost their last few games, but on home turf, and with a derby atmosphere, will be a tough nut to crack.

Skipper Joe Mallinson will rally the troops to give the home support something to cheer about as they look to return to winning ways.

George Smith will give the back-line some get-up-and-go, and the return of scrum half Sam Dutton is a bonus as they look to get ball to the backs.

Steve Perry will spread play as quickly as possible to the likes of Sam Attard and Tez Nueto, who can cause problems for Millom, both going forward and in defence.

Corne Els is hoping to be back from injury and his presence will be massive for Furness.

Craig McKinnon will join his skipper in the back row, with Alex Mason hoping to keep his place in the pack after coming on as a second-half substitute last week at prop.

Superb forward Rhys Studt will try to get involved early to keep Millom on the back foot, with Charlie Martin unlikely to be far from the action.

Millom travel with a young second row, with former Colts Keiron Coulson and Steven Forster taking up the mantle.

Backing them up from the front three will be club man Ian Cummings, who will be teaming up with Dean Doyle and Steven Watson s they take on the robust Furness side.

The pack is completed with Dean Redhead leading the way for Joe Jaydon and Chris Wilson to follow as they look to control the breakdowns and set pieces, an area Furness have struggled with of late.

Jordan Moyes keeps the stand-off shirt after a couple of successful runs, with the back line featuring the likes of Jarty Robinson and Hugh Sweeney.

Somebody enjoying it in the back line is Craig Mounsey, who along with Graham Hartley, is a force to be reckoned with.

With Doug Jardine at full back, the Wilson Park side will be hopeful of taking the points.

UPPER EDEN v HAWCOAT PARK

HAWCOAT are on the road again after last week’s scheduled match at St Benedict’s fell foul of the weather. The Maroon and Whites visit Kirkby Stephen to face an Upper Eden side a couple of places above them in the North Lancs/Cumbria League.

It is a more than winnable game for Park.

They need to get their season back on track, but with no John Donnan, big games will be needed from Andy Kent and Jason Priss to plug the gap.

James Howden is back in the fold at stand-off and will link up with Antony Munday at scrum half.

Callum Ramsey is also back in the squad and centre field will see the growing partnership of Chris Burns and Grady Slater take the ball on at every opportunity.

The back row will have an important part to play and could have Mike Lightfoot, Matty Sayle and Jack Sutherland at the helm, with Will Mallinson joining Ash Mowat in the engine room.

With Liam Murray unavailable, it could see the return of Robert Shepherd out wide, where the wing man has been making a name for himself as of late.

HAWCOAT PARK A v AMBLESIDE

(Hawcoat Park, 2.15pm)

ANOTHER derby takes place at Hawcoat Park as the club’s second string take on Ambleside in Cumbria League Two.

Ambleside had a great home win against Egremont last week and, with Hawcoat coming away with a 27-27 draw at Wigton, this could be the game of the weekend.

Martin Kennedy will lead his troops, with club stalwarts Adam Williamson and Martin Heywood pulling the young side along and showing them the way forward.

Lewis Sayle will be pulling the strings from full back, with Joe Ward covering his back when he goes on his attacking forays.

Matt Robson and Paul Woodburn will be the front men taking on Ambleside’s big pack, with young Jordan Garnett at hooker taking on the role of winning the ball for his team-mates.

Joining Kennedy in the second row will be Rory Sayle, who is coming on leaps and bounds, with his running game to the fore.

Young Colts Jack Shannon and Joe Rea are developing nicely and are more than a handful for any team when they are on-song.

For their part, Ambleside are almost unchanged, with the only variation seeing Byron Stevenson replaced by last week’s try-scorer Steve Bragg.

They go strong in the front three, with Paul Aires, Pip Houghton and Gregg Stevenson holding court going forward.

Last week’s superb performance from Keenan Longster keeps him in the pivotal scrum half role as he builds on his partnership with fly-half Lewis Kelly.

Outside Kelly will be Matthew Middlemiss and Kal Thompson, who could be a real thorn in the Maroon and Whites’ side.

The finishers are likely to be Tim Horsfall and Ben Row, who will be keen to get some early ball to settle their nerves, but with full-back Frayser Lydon there is a safe pair of hands nearby.
