DEDICATED Furness Catholic ABC boxers were back in action only two days after the club's Dinner at the Ringside show.

Junior fighter Jaye Helyer took on Taylor Goulden of Tameside Elite ABC in a skills bout at Tameside Masonic Hall. The eleven-year-old showed excellent skills and control to keep her opponent at bay with solid jabs and neat footwork.

Paul Ryan of Furness ABC said: "Jaye is making good progress in view of her first competitive contest."

Five days later, Furness ABC boxers travelled to Leigh and put in some good performances.

Eleven-year-old Walney schoolboy Lochlan Gosling boxed very well against Billy Hervey of Leigh ABC, outscoring his opponent in all three rounds to take the win.

Next up was fourteen-year-old Dowdales pupil Evan Jones who boxed two-time national champion Kyle Parr of Leigh ABC.

Jones scored freely from long range in the first round before his opponent muscled in to close range trying to stifle any attacks. In what was a fairly even contest, the home boxer appeared the busier and claimed a split decision.

Said Ryan: "Jones' previous opponent was a schoolboy champion and England International boxer, and his performances against both these boxers show he can compete at this level and can only get better. The club is incredibly proud of the three boxers who have shown great dedication to their sport."
