A TALENTED footballer will see her dreams come true after being picked to represent England.

Barrow’s Aimee Everett has been selected as part of the under-15s national squad to take on Germany in Dusseldorf next month.

The 14-year-old Blackburn Rovers forward or midfielder will spend a week preparing with the England team, having impressed at a previous training camp last year.

Everett is relishing the challenge in front of her as she prepares to make her international bow, and said: “I was shocked at first to be picked, but it was nice to hear and I’m very excited.

“I thought I did well at the last training camp and I think that has helped me be picked again.

“I think it will be a good experience. When you first pull on that England shirt, it’s going to be amazing – it will be a weird feeling, but a good one.

“It’s something I’ve wanted for ages. It means a lot – I’ve wanted it since I was little and it will be the best thing I’ve done in football.”

Everett admits to not knowing much about the opposition for England’s trip, and added: “I imagine they will be good, but I don’t really know how good.”

The St Bernard’s School pupil came through the junior ranks at Holker Old Boys and Crooklands Casuals, where she often played in boys’ sides before being signed on by Preston North End and then moving to Blackburn. She is in her third season there.

Everett has impressed with the Lancashire club – where fellow Barrovian Georgia Stanway, herself an England Under-17s regular, started out before moving to Women’s Super League side Manchester City.

Her performances earned her a first England squad call towards the end of 2015, but now she has the chance to appear in a match for the Young Lionnesses, and mum Andrea Hodgson said the family were delighted.

“We’re really proud of her,” she said.

“She has been in the squad before and she has been in the elite performance camps, but they don’t normally play games, so this will be the first fixture for the squad.

“There is never a guarantee when you go to one training camp that you will be there the next time. To be selected again, when she is still only 14, is amazing.

“She works really hard. We’re down at Blackburn three times a week for training and matches.”

Everett will join the England squad in Warwick on February 14, before flying to Germany two days later. The match in Dusseldorf will take place on Friday, February 19.
