A NEW England dawn is on the horizon for Barrow star Aimee Everett.

The 15-year-old has been named in the squad for the national Under-16s squad – having impressed playing for the Young Lionesses Under-15s side in the past.

Striker or midfielder Everett is part of the Blackburn Rovers set-up, from where fellow South Cumbrians Georgia Stanway and Kelsey Pearson went on the play for England Under-16s.

The St Bernard's School pupil will attend a North West regional training camp at Edge Hill University, Liverpool, this weekend, before joining the full squad at St George's Park on Monday.

She will spend three days with the under-16s set-up and play a match against Norway.

“It's a step up to the next age group, and it's a big step up,” said Everett, who is in her fourth season with Blackburn, with whom she took part in an international club tournament in Texas earlier this year. “I'm really happy to have been called up. Being in the under-15s team is a big achievement, but the under-16s is even bigger.

“It's going to be more challenging, but I feel like I'm ready. I'll see what it's all about when I get there.”

Everett achieved great success last season as she travelled to Germany with England Under-15s and was part of their squad at St George's Park on several occasions.

The former Crooklands Casuals and Holker Old Boys junior hopes this will not be her only call-up for the under-16s, with the aim to keep performing well in the national and and for Blackburn.

Rovers under-16s are taking on the likes of Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City in a league this season, and Everett knows it will be more competitive than in the past, but hopes to make that step.

She said: “We play in a league now with Blackburn, so it's more competitive. We've played against Liverpool, who are a Women's Super League club, and you can see the difference in their set-ups at the club.

“I want to make sure I do everything I can to be selected again for England. With Blackburn, I want to be in the team and try and get something out of the league this season.”
