South Lakes 10 Kirkby Stephen 2nds 0

IT was 10 out of 10 on the pitch, and 15 from 15 for the season, as South Lakes continue to dominate the Cumbria League.

Kirkby Stephen seconds were the latest side to fall under the seemingly unstoppable juggernaut, as the Reds maintained their eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Once again, Gemma Jupp was the striking threat, bagging a hat-trick, while Rebecca Cook, so often the supplier of goals from short corners, grabbed two for herself.

Lakes had a great start, as some fantastic passes in the first five minutes saw them awarded a short corner.

Player-of-the-match Cook put the ball in to Holly Nuttall, whose shot was deflected off the keeper to Jupp, who took two attempts before scoring.

Cook again carried the ball forward soon after, but with no-one coming in to make a tackle, she carried on into the D, where her shot found the target.

Minutes later, there was more good build-up play, starting from the back, with Catherine Cooke playing the ball into Sarah Robinson.

She played out to Jenny Clayton, who played down the line and switched it back into Holly Nuttall. Her pass across allowed Emma Armstrong to place the ball in the back of the net and Lakes were 3-0 up.

The hosts had found their rhythm and kept passing the ball around the pitch, holding onto possession.

Anna Stable carried it into the D and was awarded a short corner after a foul, from which Cook injected the ball to Stable, who switched for Armstrong to take a shot. Her effort was deflected, and Cook picked up the ball to net her second.

South Lakes soon built from the back again, with centre-back Lesley Davey picking out Cooke, who found Stable. She played the ball down the line to Gayle Mawdsley, who switched it in to Jenny Clayton for her to score number five.

A sixth goal came before the break, as Jupp scored again, but the home side started the second half in an unsettled manner, putting themselves under unnecessary pressure.

Kirkby Stephen made a couple of attacks in response, but Joy Potter made some skilful saves, and, with the support of her defence line, was able to keep the visitors from scoring.

It took 19 minutes of the half for South Lakes to add to their tally.

The seventh goal came when Jupp completed her hat-trick, with the eighth soon following as Armstrong used her speed to carry the ball down the right and round the back, switching across to Sarah Robinson, who scored.

A minute later, Nuttall carried the ball from the halfway line into the D, took a shot and made it 9-0.

With only minutes to go, Stable dribbled the ball out to Robinson, who switched to Clayton.

She went across to Armstrong, who played through for Mawdsley to complete the scoring.

South Lakes can move a big step closer to the Cumbria League title when they host second-placed Wigton at Ulverston Leisure Centre on Saturday (12.30pm push-back).
