AN unexpected second-half collapse saw Windermere Men slide to only their second North League defeat of the season against Urmston.

The Manchester side came from 5-3 down at half-time to win 7-5 at Lakes School in an ill-tempered finale, in which Mere lost their composure despite having themselves wiped out an early two-goal deficit.

Mere’s scorers were man-of-the-match Harry Jackson (2), Will Dolman from a penalty corner, Tom Whitehead and Jake Sorrenson.

The loss, combined with Brooklands' win over the University of Liverpool, sees the Lake District side drop to second in North League Division Two West.

Windermere are on the road on Saturday, travelling to fourth-placed Deeside Ramblers.

Mere's ladies had another frustrating Lancashire Central League Premier Division afternoon.

Cat Drury twice fired them into the at Lancaster Nomads, but the home side levelled first with a field goal and then from a short corner before bagging the winner in another close encounter.

Skipper Caitlin Taylor won the player-of-the-match award.

Windermere men's seconds lost 4-0 at high-flying Ormskirk in North West Division Five.

After shipping three penalty corner goals in the first half and then a scrappy field goal, they restructured their midfield and promisingly dominated the last 20 minutes – forcing a string of desperate saves by the home side.
