DANE Ghyll completed a primary schools netball treble for a second year with victory in the Barrow and District tournament at Chetwynde.

With the girls team already crowned league champions and the school’s mixed side having triumphed in the Furness High-Five mixed tournament, the success made it another year to remember. The girls team had claimed the league title with an unbeaten record and they were in imperious form once again in the one-day tournament.

Matches were played both inside the school sports hall and on the outdoor netball courts, with teams battling it out through the morning to be crowned as champions.

Yarlside Academy and hosts Chetwynde both entered two teams in the competition, with Newbarns and Ulverston St Mary’s also among those competing.

Dane Ghyll overcame Ulverston St Mary’s in the final, with the home school’s A-team reaching the last four.

The Dane Ghyll High-Five team will represent Furness at the Cumbria School Games in Carlisle this summer.
