IN-FORM table tennis starlet Rebecca Rigg is celebrating victory in her first two tournaments of the season.

The 13-year-old St Bernard's School pupil triumphed in the under-13s competitions at the Halton Two-Star event in Widnes and the Halifax Two-Star competition.

In her fourth competition of the year at Halton, she defeated Katie Bates, from Cleveland, 3-1 in the final – after also beating her 3-0 in the group stages to take the title.

Rigg had earlier seen off national under-11s champion Lucy Gent 3-0 in the semi finals.

The Furness CC table tennis ace, who also plays football for Dalton Girls and Ladies and the Barrow AFC Girls Performance Centre, had only previously reached the semi-final stages in Two-Star events, bowing out each time to England number one Ruby Chan.

However, Rigg took advantage of Chan’s absence at Halton and added a winner's trophy to her collection.

In Halifax, Rigg defeated the highly-ranked Lola McGee, from Cleveland, 3-1 in semi-finals, before beating Molly Rhodes, from Yorkshire, 3-1 in final.

She thanked her coach John Harrison and Furness Table Tennis Club sponsor Cumbria Autos for their continued support.
