MANCHESTER City and England goalkeeper Curtis Anderson is aiming for even greater heights next season.

The 15-year-old made his international bow for England last season and played a big role for City at under-16s level.

Now he hopes to head back to pre-season training firing on all cylinders after pushing himself through his own fitness regime.

“Last season was the best I have had,” he said. “I made my England debut and I was part of the team that won the National Floodlit Cup.”

Anderson finished last season by being named goalkeeper of the tournament as City won the Cayman Airway Under-15s tournament in the Cayman Islands, playing against top youth teams from across the world and beating LA Galaxy and the Cuban national team.

He will return to step up a level to the under-16s and also hopes to feature for the under-18s at the Etihad as he continues his progress through the ranks with the Premier League big boys.

“Hopefully I will be playing for the under-16s and I can also be involved with the under-18s,” Anderson added. “I just need to push on now.

“I want to be in the under-19s Champions League as well and play as many games for the under-18s as I can. This is why I am in the gym as much as I can be, to get physically bigger and be ready for that level – I need to be bigger, not height-wise, but muscle-wise.”

Internationally, he is targeting a spot in the England team for the European Championships Under-17s qualifiers in October, and said: “That’s what I’m pushing for now.

“This is the level where it starts getting competitive. At under-15s and under-16s for England, it’s all about testing the players out. At under-17s, it’s about the best players being picked.”

The 6ft 1ins south Cumbrian ace has been taking advantage of the facilities at Ulverston Leisure Centre during his stay at home during the close season.

The centre have allowed Anderson to use their gym and the star stopper has been sure to stay in peak condition during the summer break.

“I start back on July 25 so I’ve been doing my own regime until then,” said the former Crooklands Casuals junior. “I’m using the facilities at Ulverston just about every day.”
