LIAM Conroy will fight Georgian teenager Beka Aduashvili for the WBC Youth World Silver Light Heavyweight title next month.

Conroy has been eagerly awaiting news of his opponent ahead of what is the biggest fight of his career, at Preston Guild Hall on Saturday, June 18.

Barrow ABC product Conroy is expecting a difficult challenge against a younger boxer, but one with a lot more fights under his belt than the Barrow man, and with a record which suggests he has genuine punching power.

Eight of Aduashvili's 17 pro victories have been achieved by knockout, although the 19-year-old from Gori has also been stopped inside the distance four times in his five defeats.

He fought for the WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council Light Heavyweight title in February but was stopped by German Serdar Sahin, and his latest bout last week saw him suffer the same fate against big-hitting Hungarian Richard Baranyi.

"He's younger than me but more experienced," said the 23-year-old Conroy, who has won nine and drawn one of his 13 pro contests.

"He has a good record. He has boxed for a title before and has only lost to really decent opponents."

The fight tops the bill at the MGM Manchester show at the Guild Hall, and is Conroy's first since he claimed the British Challenge Light Heavyweight title with victory over Krzysztof Golec in February.

Conroy's preparations for the fight have included a sparring session with vastly-experienced world level fighter Martin Murray. And he also took part in the Great Manchester Run for the Jo's Appeal charity on Sunday, finishing Europe's biggest 10k race in an excellent time of 42 minutes, 30 seconds.

* Tickets for the fight are now available from Conroy on 07429 188216 or directly from Preston’s Guild Hall box office by calling 01772 804440.
