TWO table tennis aces will make history when they become the first boys from the town to represent Lancashire.

Ben McDonald, 13, and Matty Rigg, 14, have both been selected for the Lancashire side in the Cadet Premier League at Westfield, Northamptonshire, this weekend.

The Furness Cricket Club Juniors team members are the first Barrow and District League male players to be called up by the Red Rose county at any level.

They will be competing against Surrey, Yorkshire, Kent, Glamorgan, Nottinghamshire and Middlesex.

Furness CC junior coach John Harrison said: “This is a brilliant achievement for the Barrow League and a great feat for Ben and Matty.

“They both work and train hard, and the league should be very proud of these young players.

“Hopefully, their achievements can attract other youngsters to take up the sport.”
