DANE Ghyll School are celebrating a year of sporting success among their pupils.

The Hawcoat school have swept up titles in basketball, netball and rugby as their teams have shown top skills all round.

Dane Ghyll’s girls netball team completed the double of the Barrow Primary Schools League and Cup, not losing a single match on their way to success in the former.

They followed up with tournament success at Chetwynde School, beating Ulverston St Mary’s 9-2 in the final to win the pair of trophies for the second year in succession.

There was also mixed netball success for the school, in the Furness High-Five tournament.

Played at Hoops, Dane Ghyll defeated Yarlside Academy in the final to earn a place representing the district in the Cumbria School Games in Carlisle this summer. They achieved the same feat in 2015.

On the basketball court, the school’s team won the Barrow Primary Schools League with victory against Holy Family at Chetwynde.

Not to be left out, their rugby union side took first place in the Barrow Schools event on the pitches at Hawcoat Park.

That success saw them go on to represent the district at the county finals in Cockermouth, where they were unlucky to be knocked out in the group stages despite losing just one game.
