The school’s freestyle relay team of Amelia Mardel, Jamie-Leigh Tyson, Felicity Boyle and Ashton Pharoah came home in second place in the international pool at Ponds Forge.

They reached the finals in Sheffield after being crowned North West Small Schools champions, which earned them selection to represent the region.

Chetwynde took part in the both the freestyle and medley relay events, with 24 of the best teams from across the country battling it out to be crowned as English champions.

The Barrow team swam superbly in the heats both disciplines, qualifying for the A finals in each, a remarkable achievement in itself.

The medley team finished sixth overall, but it was in the freestyle final that they really shone, coming home second to claim the silver medals.

The prize marked the 22nd consecutive time Chetwynde have appeared in the Primary National Finals.

Primary head Lynn Foxen said: “The school is very proud of the achievement. The boys and girls have worked and trained so hard for it.”
